Hi all, I would really like to get a bromelaid and I have been looking locally to find one but cant! I wondered if they set seed and if they are easy to start that way and most importantly where to buy it!
Thanks,
Marie
Do bromelaid set seed!
Yes and no. Not much of an answer huh? Obviously they all do in the wild with proper conditions and pollinators.
In cultivation Aechmeas and Billbergias often set seed, while Neoregelias seldom do - Tillandsias and Vreseas sometimes.
I wouldn't recommend growing Bromeliads from seed - they grow very slowly. But if you really want seed, you can join the Bromeliad Society and get seed from their Seed Fund. Their web site is at http://www.bsi.org
If you're just looking for plants, now is the time when you can mail-order them very easily. At the BSI site above, there are links to several nurseries.

Thank you Dave!!!!

Also, go into the Trade forum - there are often people swapping all kinds of interesting things.
