Has anyone grown Sweet potatoes in the Northwest? If so I could use all info you are willing to give.
Sweet Potatoes
Rick - they aren't easy to grow up this way: this maritime climate (near Seattle) does not build up & retain heat units. However, what they really need early on is warm soil. If you have a way of creating this, such as via a covered-raised bed, then you won't have any problems. Your area tends to run quite a bit warmer than where I am, with a more sustained heat throughout the summer. It's about a 4 month crop, so you'd need to source your slips soon. Territorial Seed may still have them. There are plenty of sources online, most in the south or mid-west. If you have the space, it's a great crop to grow, and can be done if they are given a warm start. Perhaps others will weigh in with their tips & experiences.

Yum. I hope you can find a way to make it work and then come back and tell us!
Thanks Katye; I have the slips in hand and will get them in the ground today and hope that we have that hot fall that we have had the last few years
And welcome to the forum, Rick. I hope we'll see you around more and get to share gardening experiences with you!
