Making my first attempt at growing sweet potatoes here in the Northwest. I could use all advise you are willing to give, Thanks
how to grow sweet potatos
Raise a hump (about a foot high) of soil down the row and plant the rooted starts on one side. When it comes to harvest time, you'll be glad you did. It will enable you to get a shovel or fork underneath the tubers to pop them out without cutting or skewering them.
No lime. And if you have deer, be advised that they like sweet potato vines.
Thanks Ned Good tip, I am putting the slips in the ground today.

so do rabbits....
There's a whole thread over in the Vegetable Gardening forum that's been discussing growing potatoes under straw/leaves since around January. We're up to thread Part 4, and most of us are waiting to harvest our potatoes (look for the basket of Idaho potatoes!)
Now, it's sweet potato season. We've shifted gears and have started a discussion about growing sweeties. Look for it there. It's called Growing Sweeties Under Straw/Leaves #1. (Look for the sweet potato pic!)
You might wanna read up on the 4 potato threads first, and catch up to us over on the sweetie thread.
