Wild Antelope Horns

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

There's big healthy Antelope Horns all along the roads. They look great! The only thing that bothers me is that there was absolutely no sign that any Monarch cats have ever been on any of the ones I looked at. What a shame!

Nice!!! If you decide to harvest seed pods do let me know. I'd like to get some growing at the ranch.

I'll let you know, Cat. Shouldn't be too hard to get some this year.

Saw some native milkweed at the ranch last week and staked them out so I could harvest seed pods. Yesterday when I was out there they were all literally covered in tussock moth cats - those guys defoliated everything! UGH!!!

Question: Are butterflies bigger in texas?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

We like to think they are! LOL!

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

The Two-tailed Tiger Swallowtail is the largest kind of butterfly we have in Texas, if I'm not mistaken. It is also found in a few other southwestern states also, however.

I'm going to guess that it depends on what part of the state. I think in general, things are bigger where there is more water.

It's an interesting question. Surely some PhD entomologist type has done research on this, both as far as species and individuals.

Miss Linda dont you guys have Giant ST?

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, we have that also. It's a little smaller than the one above.

I thought with a name like Giant in Texas it was open and shut. Here is a pic of the Queens coming back to their roost 2 years in a row. All hail!!
