The importance of Micro Clime in overwintering..OR How I over wintered burgmancia outside in planters.. un mulched or unwrapped.. in zone 7a.. up on the 11th floor roof top.... and got them to come back wonderfully... the first of MAY pictures... well tomorrow it will be..
SO.. these were two pretty ..I can't recall just who they were... they were left outside all winter.. you can see the roof... Google Earth.. enter ... 222w.23 st., nyc,ny this is 40* 44' 39.75 North Latatude.. you can see plenty of my plantings up there... lots of trees on the roof... one of the planters I placed along side a vent for a air shaft.. about a 8' x 10 ' shaft.. with a louvered top section.. Passively..[ no fan ] cycling air out of the apartments allowing fresh in.. but in the winter it's all heated air lighter leaving into the cold.. and passing over the limbs of these two brugs... The planter I bet I built 20 years ago... and now her son has the space.. and last year I gave them a few brugs to lighten my load of them..and I placed two in this planter ..... here's the vent top of the shaftway... outside all winter ..
The importance of Micro Clime in overwintering..OR
here's the second... good looking plants for so early.. so far north.. unwrapped ... so outside...
but in a bath of warm air... enough for the freezing cold of the air... rooftop.. and wind...sometimes quite heavy on the 11th floor roof level.. not to adversely effect them...
so.. if you can place thme... near an air exhaust.. in front of some south facing windows.. aganst a sheltered brick wall... or on a heated concrete slab.. you can push them to a northern limit..
sorry.. the pictures are phone pictures...
They are great!!! It worked out well, didn't it??
