I came across this frog today in the basket in my filter. He/she is in pretty bad shape. So thin and seemed grateful that I rescued it from the basket. I placed it on a nearby rock so it could rest. It did not seem afraid of me and did not try to hop away.
I gathered up some slugs (plentiful here in the PNW) and placed them on the rock for him to eat.
He just sat there. After a few minutes he started to move but ended up rolling off the rock and into the pond. He just floated with his eyes closed. Thinking he was a gonner..I reached in and took him out and laid him on the flat faux rock cover to my skimmer. He opened his eyes! I relocated the slugs to be near him, hoping he would eat something to gain some strength.
No luck. He sat there for a while and then jumped into the pond. He is so weak that he got sucked into the skimmer basket again. I took him out and put him in a plastic container,
We sat on the porch for a while until I decided to release him on the boggy shallow part of my pond. Here he could rest and hide and hopefully find something yummy to munch on.
He is very handsome. Sure hope he survives.

I think it is a bull frog?
I would think they would eat slugs, maybe earthworms?
He is a bull frog,just very skinney compared to the others in the pond. He was not interested in the slugs and when I wnet to check on him a few minutes ago he was not around. I sure hope he hopped away in search of a tasty dinner. Hope to see him again.
he was not around, did you check the filter basket thingy again?

Hey, all my frogs are smart! LOL. Anyway..one more check in the filter basket and he ws not there. Hopefully is is feeling better and doing his froggy things tonight. :)

Poor little frog. I once fattened up a frog by putting some food in a dish nearby. He hung around the dish and ate flies as they were drawn to the food.
