Gorgeous blooms............has the bloom season begun?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Beautiful all of them

Deep Run, NC(Zone 7b)

Blooming has started and I have around ten plants with buds showing. This is exciting as most are in their second year. I will post them as they pop., Ackerman II (pictured above) was first. Romantic Night will be next. bob

GAgirl, I would love to have one of those!!! What kind of soil do you use and fertilizer??? Julie

your plant is called...WILD THING

Deep Run, NC(Zone 7b)

Dori: This one is not like my Wild Thing at all. Though blooms certainly differ from plant to plant, Wild Thing should have a more even (length) petal distribution with the back row not standing out like this one does. Colors vary considerably from Wild Thing. It's really hard to be certain. bob

Pic. is Orchid Dendrobium Parisshi (commercial picture) that i selected by mistake from my files. Pretty, but not relevant.

Gorgeous blooms everybody. Here's mine, the bud was
yellow but it opened white. Wish I knew the name.

patootie, I think it is Epi crenata. Mine stayed a very pale yellow except for the inermost petals. The camera just didn't pick it up in that light. It grows outside year round here, almost in full sun.

Carol, I think you're right. I remember that GHWorks sent me 2 or 3
freebies yrs ago when I ordered one epi. One of my
freebies was E crenatum. Thank you so much for the verification.

GA Girl, looks more like Clown to me. Look at the inner most petals, Wild Thing has more color, I believe. Compare here

I have had this one since 2006. Got it as a single leaf-cutting from CA.

Last summer (2009) it bloomed it's head off-----then, got all dessicated and brittle and dried out while in the hose for the Winter....It had been in a 5" pot--and it badly needed potting up. Yeah! i know they like to be root bound--but it was too small.

I broke the totally dead stems off and discarded them. No waya they would have "risen from the dead!!
There were a couple that seemed to hanging on for life----But barely....

By the time I could take this plant outside--I potted the one remaining "live" (?)stem and cut some of the dessicated ones in pieces and potted it all in a 10" HB.
It has been hanging outside in filtered light and, just yesterday, I saw a flower bud coming from one of the dessicated sections....There's hope!!!!

Here's some of the blooms from last June....

Orchidman---Is this an "Ackerman II" then??? The bloom looks identical to yours...

Here's the whole plant as it was starting to bloom.
Does this help???

I have another one I got at the same time---and it has NEVER bloomed....The leaves are similar to the one that bloomed, but they are thicker--and have a slight flattened, "triangular" look to them.
It DID stay in decent shape in the house--and I re-potted that one also. It is hanging in decent sunlight most of the day--

I will be looking to see if, by any chance, it is getting a bud as well...

Thanks.....Gita

edited to add: Do you see my HUGE Ric-Rac hanging behind it? They share this pole....

My favorite shot-----

The pole holds my retractable laundry line--and I hang the Epi and my Ric Rac on each end if the "T"....

This is the second huge Ric rac HB I have had.....
The first one got too big and I donated it to the Conservatory here.....It lives and blooms happily above a big pond in the Mediterranian House.....

Gitagal: Yours does look very much like mine. I hesitate to guess the name as so many are very similar to each other and can easily be misnamed. Mine appears to have almost an orange veining and is wider rather than conelike. bob
