I have a 2 year old fountain grass that lives in a pot on my back deck. It is showing zero signs of life - just brittle stems from last year, no sprouts. I don't remember when it broke dormancy last year. Does anyone have any clue if this puppy may be dead or alive? Thanks.
Fountain grass emergence ?
Is it mushy in the crown? Do the old stems pull easily from it?
Mine are all fine - just a couple of my Helichtotrichons need serious division.
I would wait a bit - it's a warm season grass & it ain't warm yet. Soon & very soon...
Semi mushy crown, and the old stems practically fall off it.
Our ornamental grasses here emerge in about 2 weeks. Now I have almost everyone so I don't expect any emergence. Most the the new growth starts in the perimeter and will fill in the center. I often cut out the central plant to get new healthy growth.
Bonehead - it's probably gone, but still, i would recommend waiting a bit. Should have shown some life by now, though.
If you're the curious type, dig it up to see what the roots look like - keep anything that resembles healthy!
