Do succulents always need shade? Just light and no sun? Does someone know the name of this?

Hard to tell from the pic, try the cactus and succulant forum. Not all succulants want shade, many like full sun and some like part shade here in out TX heat. Like most plants its about the species.

Hard to tell from your pic but maybe a kind of crassula. I have several and most of mine are in 3/4 day direct sun. C is right though try the C&S forum for more detailed info :)
