We have a group of pigeons that just won't go away. A couple of weeks ago we had a pigeon that was laying an egg as it was eating, is this a common thing with pigeons?
First time seeing something like this...
hmmm, I do not know. Hope someone knows more about the birds will stop by soon.
Wow that is amazing Marie! Nice catch on the in action (egg laying photo). I wonder if the egg is fertile since they are just plopping them on the ground like that.
Is she sitting on the egg?
Lost racing pigeons, I'd guess. Domesticated birds often don't have the same maternal instincts as wild birds (since the owner does the job for them), so they don't really know what to do with an egg.
They'll hang around as long as they can find food, or until a predator finds them.

I'm glad Resin could answer this one. I feel bad for the pigeons and hope they'll survive the elements.
Hi Marie,
Are you sure she was laying that egg there and then?
To me it looks more like she had been sitting on her eggs in the nest with soiled feathers, making the egg stick to her belly when she left the nest to go and feed!
Maddy
That's quite possible, with street pigeons! Mucky things ;-)
