Mystery plant - help.

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

This seedling has appeared in my flowerbed. I think it's a tree, but only because the stem is woody is appearance. Does anyone know what this is?

May be a Catalpa tree. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1682/

Thanks Stacey. I guess a bird must have "gifted" it to me. :-)

I have three of them coming up in yard. I am going to move them to another part of the yard. ... and guess where the biggest one is growing? I dont want to touch the vine or the tree.

It looks like Coral Vine to me. They self sow everywhere in my yard.

Sylvia, for the one growing in your clematis, just clip it along the stems. When it dies, you can then untangle them from the clematis. Clip it at the base, too.

It could also be a Princess tree, and although it is very pretty it is very invasive

Look on the underside of the leaf and see if it is a grayish green as the picture on the link shows.

Steph I dont want to kill the tree. Out of the three volunteers its the largest. Will the tree live if I just cut the leaves off where its entwined?
Next time I purchased a Clemitis please remind me to keep the number that tells you how to prune. There are three planted there because I thought they were not going to do anything. I got one more to show in that spot.
Anyway I see them coming up everywhere now, but the vine never gets longer than a ft or so before they dissapear. I found a pretty yellow one that I tied to another old vine ... I swear if the yard didn't just yank it out the ground ... if I had a revolver I would hunt him down and shoot him!
I think I will join the Clematis Forum now. :)

He he. Sylvia, you gave away clematis vines at the fall 2008 RU that you picked up from the Lowe's bargain bin. Did you know that they came up and bloomed last spring? Mine did, and so did Lynea's. Mine bloomed again this year, and every time I looked at it I thought of you.

I have another new clematis that was planted by God. I'm kinda shocked because I had heard that clematis seeds could take 2-3 years to germinate. But much to my delight, there it is. :) Unfortunately it's in a bad spot and needs to be moved, and since it hasn't bloomed yet I don't know a type or anything. I don't know when to move them, or if you even can. Anyone?

PATTI! do you remember that Clematis with the big white flower I bought when we went garden shopping that day? Well its planted there too! So I got about four going in that one spot! I hate to try digging down there. I need to rebuild the trellis, but I never think about it until the Clematis start blooming.
What's the name of that pink & white stripe one? That's the one that's coming up everywhere, the marker is still in the ground.
The guy who lives in the place where I moved from, got three or four that was planted under the fence. He dug them up, potted them and put one of those cone Trellis in the pot ... it was beautiful!

I don't know if this is the one you mean, but the one you gave to me was a Nellie Moser. White with pink-lavender stripes. It's so pretty.

Dallas, TX

Yes thats it! Nellie Moser! What can I do to get it to grow? I got one out front and one in the back, but it only get about a ft long and I dont see it any more.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

I doubt you're doing anything wrong. Some of them just take a few years to grow bigger.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Pattie, we missed you at the swap.
Josephine.

Aw, thanks, Josephine. I was really sorry I couldn't make it. Looking forward to seeing some of you in Jacksonville.
