I saw two of these birds perched on the electrical wires along the road by my house this morning. I've never seen this bird before and have searched through my Florida bird book to no avail. The only photo in my book that it kinda sorta looks like to me is the Brown Booby. The description says it's dark brown above with contrasting white underbelly and white wing linings. I couldn't get a close enough shot to notice any white underbelly but I think I see a bit of white peeking from the closed wings. It also says the Brown Booby's habit is over open water but they are occasionally seen along Florida's east coast (which is my location) although I'm a mile inland from the ocean.
Sorry about the bad quality of this picture, it was very cloudy and this was the best I could get with my camera. I'm going to watch for them again tomorrow morning in hopes for a better shot but it's doubtful as we are supposed to have rain throughout the night and morning hours.
CLOSED: Who am I ??
European Starling
Thank You Burd! LOL, I must have missed that one in my bird book, I just looked and sure enough one of the photo's looks exactly like the ones I spotted. I've never seen a European Starling before but information in my book lists their range as statewide and says that during winter they may congregate here in the thousands! It also says that they are aggressive and are capable of displacing native cavity nesters. They are interesting looking but I hope I don't see many more of them!
Thanks so much for the ID!

Too late...now that you have seen your first one...you may see thousand's. lol ; )
It sure is a neat looking bird! I checked the Bird Files database yesterday but there are no pic's of the Brown Booby. It's good to see a high quality picture showing the details of that pretty bird ... Thanks for sharing your great photo!
There's also just a leetle bit of a difference in size . . . one Brown Booby weighs as much as 15 Starlings ;-)

Not my photo...after you mentioned it with your post I had to go see one for myself and decided to post a pic of the bird.
LOL Resin, that is a bit of a difference!
Burd: Oh, I thought it was your photo because I saw your copyright on the pic ... whoever the photographer is, he/she sure got a nice shot!
