Won't break dormancy.....?

North Augusta, ON

I have 3 that I've been growing for a few years. This year though, only one of them has broken dormancy and put out new leaves. The others are still nice green stems, but no leaves.

Anything I can do to hurry them along? If they don't soon start they'll not have time to do anything!!

I hope someone will answer this one - I've got several in suspended growth - just sitting there as green sticks with two TINY leaves TRYING to apprear!

They will come, just wait...Most of mine are still dormant too. It has been a cool spring, well at least for us, and it is taking them longer to wake up. Don't water until you see new leaves...that would be the only thing, I can think of, that you could to to harm them at this point...let incactive roots sit in wet soil. As soon as you see new growth go ahead and water and add a little fert too.

Any action yet?
I've been waiting forever too.We had some early warm weather so I had decided to sink this in my south facing bed. Then a cool spell (of course) and I was afraid the tips had gotten frosted. The three branch tips look sort of blackish. This closeup shoes maybe a new bud breaking out below the tip though? After the picture I clipped the end of this brnach off and all the tissue seems healthy. The stems are all firm and green.

Yes - that is black tip, and you do have a new tip forming below it. It happened to many of my plants this year.

Thanks! I had a small bloom cluster last year, the first, and am really looking forward to a good show this year.

Dutchlady1, What causes black tip? I have one plumi that does this every year, but recovers and blooms well later. It's on the north side of my house, so gets the sun later than the rest. Is this caused by cold air, cold soil, or do some cultivars just seem prone to it? This is a NOID with huge white , rather floppy flowers.

Cold is usually the culprit. And certain varieties are more prone to it than others.

Thank you!
