Does anyone grow Verbena rigida? How invasive is it? How much sun does it need? Just wondering as sites seem to give opposing information.

Trying a new species
I read the DG reports and both people seem to like it.. it looks like itd be great for flutterbys.. I mean butterflys..lol. I have the Verbena bonariensis and its had negative reports on it. In its second year this year its doubled in size.. I love it and the butterflys do to.. go for it Id say...
I am not wanting to plant anything that is invasive, it makes me feel guilty LOL. But honestly that is my biggest concern, I will plant it somewhere it cannot take over.

what invasive to some isnt to others.. Ive Blk and blue salvia and some people hate it and other love it .. Ive found it to be easly kept under control.. so to each their own..lol..
I agree and some plants are invasive in some environments but not in others. I just don't want a bed full of verbena rigida. If it grows well it will have a home here somewhere.

I wouldn't feel _guilty_ about an invasive/well-adapted native (unless you just totally trashed your next door neighbor's landscaping). It's just the foreign, invasive, ones that have so many unintended consequences.
Anyways, as far as Verbena rigida... I was looking at that other week, similarly finding a whole range of conflicting information. I was really starting to wonder if it's one of those where common names for two different things got all muddled together. Or it might be as simple as Yeah, it spreads like crazy in lovely moist subtropical Florida, but it's pretty contained out on the prairie. You can always become known as Lady Bountiful Verbena, as you bestow the excess on friends and enemies alike.
I'm going to plant some if I can find it, but I'm pretty easy about things spreading.

Or, I can plant it in a pot and test it out. It took me too long to get rid of Mex. petunia and I am not going back! Actually, I have a very tough spot in the front of my house and a native tough ground cover might be a great solution. I was just wondering if anyone on here had personal experience to share. If it grows well it might be coming to the fall round up...
