This is the GIANT Grenadilla, which is the largest of the Passifloras - this is blooming this morning in my yard (it's in a pot):

Wow Jo...that's pretty! Love the red with purple.:-))

Saw in the prayer forum that Stacey might be headed our way in May??

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Yes! I hope she feels like traveling - if she does, I may drive down and pick her up - want to go with?

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

depends on when

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

I think she wants to come to the roundup and spend the whole week, but I have my doubts that she will be able to, because she's on chemo again.

The May 8 RU??? That would be so cool.

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Ginger, I will try to call you after church tomorrow, AFTER I talk to Stacey.

Are 'grenadilla' and quadrangularis the same plant?

Miami, FL(Zone 10b)

If I'm not mistaken yes. Passiflora quadrangularis is known as the "Giant granadilla" being able to produce fruits the size of a football. But I'm far from being a passiflora expert so don't take my word for it. Either way it looks beautiful !!!!

Kay, do you get fruit? Is this one you need two of to get fruit?

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

When I bought this one, there was one with a giant fruit on it. I know nothing about this Passiflora.

Eupora, MS

it's beautiful!

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

The flower is gorgeous and the fruit is yummie. Here is a picture of it.

SIGH!!!
I have just started on trying to germinate some of these beautiful Passiflora.

Any hints pertinent to getting these lovelies to pop?

I have 2 small Incarnata plants started & am catching the Passiflora FEVER....
OH NO!!! :D ~Cheryl

Kay, your flower is either P. "Purple Tiger' or P. 'Decaisneana, it is not Quadrangularis. I'm not sure if you got it off of ebay or not but there are many sellers there selling these as Giant Grenadilla or Quadrangularis, but they aren't. You have a very nice plant there and if you cross pollinate it, you will get large yummy fruits but they won't be nearly as big as the Quads. I think Logees is offering the true Quad if you'd like to try and get one.

No, I got it at a nursery locally.

San Diego, CA

A lot of the florida nurseries have it wrong too. I was there a few years back and found it at 3 different nurseries throughout south florida labeled as such. It is for sure one of the two I mentioned though. If you do want the Giant Grenadilla, (Quadrangularis), I just checked at Logees.com and it is available there, you will be able to see the difference in the flower.

I don't really care much about which one it is - I just think it's pretty. Thanks for giving me the correct name, though.

Mountain View, HI

Can someone give me a name for this one. It also has a fruit as large as a football but very bland taste. Even the birds won't eat it.

Mark, do you have any clue as to why mine isn't blooming? It is sitting in a huge pot, in full sun. In fact, NONE of my Passifloras are blooming!

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Kay,
Mine are starting to kick in more now...I think it's been the high night time temps. Now that's it's been a bit cooler and we're getting rain..( actually like a lot of other plants too ! ) they are happier.

Morifloia (Woodland Passion Flower) been blooming for about two weeks..
Lady Margaret is really kicking in and P. nephrodes is starting back up after blooming like crazy before it got hot
Several others, P. trifasciata, miersii, eichleriana are setting buds. No sign yet of buds on alata, eduis McCain yet tho, but I think day's have to get a bit shorter, seems to me it was later last year too for them. Vitifloia blooms later also.

Well, my lady margaret has always put on a show for the whole summer and fall for me - I've gotten about 5 blooms so far this year, and it's a perennial here - who knows what's going on.

north coast nsw, Australia

Heres mine and i just got told i'd need another same plant from a different seed to pollinate with mine to get fruit? Can't find another plant anywhere here in Australia so ive bought some seeds and will have to grow my own. Could be a while till i see fruit. hehe!
