I have this plant which is a portodora. I thought it was gone for good, but now this little shoot is coming up. Should I leave it alone and let it do its thing? I'm worried that the large tuber will rot and kill the little plant. I'm really not experienced with aroids. What do you think?

What should I do with this?
I would just leave it and let it do it's thing.
Actually, that "little shoot" is a new growing point that will use all the remaining stored food in the expiring corm to grow a new plant. Because the shoot is using the old corm, you should leave it alone and let the new plant take over. I've done this many times and the rot does not take out the shoot. I assume the corm was adversely affected by winter cold?
Yes, I thought they were in a protected area, but not protected enough. I'm just so excited that it is coming back. Thanks, LariAnn.
She's definitely right. Mine is the same. New plants are coming off of my Macros. The center part. I left alone. Now, I have about 4 plants coming up.
Does each plant form a corm then?
Each plant will develop it's own corm as it grows. Sometimes the corm remains attached to the parent corm, and sometimes it forms from a cormlet and ends up being independent of the parent corm.
My upright is like that too Lariann. The parent plant is starting to get soft. Leave it alone too??? I have left it and have 4 to five 2 to 3 foot plants off of it. I keep the gnats away with dunks, but do you think I can break away some of the parent. Or just leave it alone?? It was like that last year, but I didn't want to pull it away. Julie
You can separate the plants out, and this is the time of year to do it. If you end up with raw cut ends on any, dust them liberally with cinnamon powder after rinsing the wounds and drying lightly.
Thanks a lot!!! :) Got any plants available this year???? Julie
Julie, you have d-mail!
