Bob Sargent along with the Hummingbird Study Group netted and banded a Ruby-throated Hummingbird with a green gorget at Ft. Morgan, Al banding site! They believe it's a variant of the norm after closely examining it's overall size and plumage.
It would be interesting to see what his offspring would look like if he mates.
Have a look at the photos, he is a real beauty!!

Ruby-throated Hummingbird with Green Throat!!!
Pelle, Thanks so much for the link. Really interesting bird. I too would be interested in what the offspring would look like. Becky
Hi Becky, Your very welcome! I was so amazed by it.
Pelle, is that highly unusual in Ruby_throat Hummingbirds, doesn't the light spectrum influence the truth 'color' that our naked eyes can see?
Hi Lily, It should come up red with the light but this one is completely different. You can see from the pics that no matter which way they turned him it was green. Pretty cool!
And a gorgeous bird, so tiny but gorgeous! Thank you Pelle.
Glad you found this one Pelle. It's really interesting how the color can change so much. I've had partially green gorgets on my Anna's, but never the whole thing like this.
Dang...that is cool!
Hope everyone had a chance to see this. :-)
Wow what a beauty!! If I ever saw something like that I would think my eyes were playing tricks! Thanks for posting Pelle!!
