How do you propagate creeping phlox?

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

It is spreading nicely but still has only the small original root area.
It does not seem to root itself.

Any ideas or anyone start new plants?

I have tried making divisions, but that didn't seem to work for me, so this spring I may try to do it the way this website suggests:

Phlox Stolonifera (Creeping Phlox)

Creeping Phlox grow up to only 6 inches above the ground surface, and spread laterally to nearly 2 feet across. Their flowers range in color from pale lavender to a strong violet in spring to early summer.

An evergreen plant which grows by sending out runners, you can propagate it successfully from stem cuttings. Take cuttings 6 inches long in the early spring from a lateral shoot near the tips. Gently pull off leaves from the bottom third of the cutting. This portion will go into the ground. Creeping Phlox do well in partial shade, but ensure the soil has adequate drainage. Add sand or fine gravel if the clay content is high. Dip the stem tip in a rooting fertilizer, and plant it in the ground about 4 inches below the surface. Water sparingly so the fine root filaments will stretch out deeper to get water.

I usually just pull some of the plant off (about 8 inches long) & stick the bottom half under a rock or a brick & keep it moist but not wet.

Thanks for the help , Do you think it is too late in the spring to try it now?
I am in zone 5a a bit earlier here but they are in full bloom.

I do mine when they are in full bloom. Only because that is when I think about them :)

Run those instruction off to me abour propagating creeping phlox. I tried to root some cuttings a few years ago and it never took. Maybe I will try again. Only have one of the emerald blue/purple. Bought a bunch of the creeping pink phlox earlier this spring. They need to be sheered off now. Can you start it in 4 in. nursery pots? Do I need to dip it in rootone? If you put it under a rock, wouldn't it die? Wouldn't you have to work up the soil under it so it would take hold? What is the purpose of the rock, to hold it steady until it roots? Gosh, I'm learning all kinds of things on this website.

Here's a link on propagation by 'layering' that may be useful to you, pippi. I think it answers most of your questions.

I did take some cuttings and they seem to be taking root, at least they are still green.
