quail

Does anyone on here know anything about Quail? Have quail? have hatched quail eggs before? anything? :) someone is giving me quail & i can't find a good link online to say what types will survive here. These I'm getting are Bob Whites ( we have them here naturally) but I'd like to have some other different breeds as well. Help please?

There were several posts a couple years ago....as I recall, the chicks were sort of delicate and the adults a bit nervous. But people loved them.

When I wanted to learn about peacocks, one of the sites I found was www.thepoultrysite.com. They have info on all sorts of poultry so you could start there. www.feathersite.com was another. I don't know if they have quail per se but there are all sorts of links. I think that a search through the archives on this forum and a browse through those sites and maybe a couple more should really get you started on the right foot. Good Luck! And have fun!

I hatched some coutnex quail and button quail this year. The one thing i have learned is you need to put marbles in the waterer! they will drown in a teaspoon of water!grind the starter down to the size of corn meal for a lil while.they hatch in tlike 16 or 17 days.they need a lid on the brooder as they start jumping when startled really soon. They need a cage with eather a soft top or one a couple of feet high to keep them from killing themselves when they jump up and hit the top.mine hatched on easter and i have since moved them into my ringneck dove flight. They tend to stay very close to me when im in there and will come right out with me if im not careful.

Such cuties! I like the idea of using shelf liner for secure footing.
