I can't tell if it is a bloom or not. I dont want to get my hopes up.
Is this Kerrii going to bloom?
Yeah I'm sorry i wasn't sure what to call it. I have had it for about 10 months but I bought it when it was already big. It has grown a lot since I bought it. I have it facing east and it gets quite a bit of light. I do have a little problem with fungus though. I have tried fungicide but it didn't work so I'm not sure whether to repot it or not.
I've had H. kerrii for many years but don't give it enough light so it's never flowered for me. It sounds like you're giving it the right care; don't pot it up, but you could examine the roots to see if they're healthy or not. Maybe just a change of potting soil-to something more chunky and light will help.
Can you post a picture of the fungus problem you're having? Perhaps someone can help guide you.
There is nothing right now. They are like little yellow mushrooms and I usually just take them out. When one pops up, which it will because I just watered, I will post it. Thanks a bunch. I absolutely cannot wait for it to bloom.
LenaNicole: Congrats! It looks like you will eventually see a bloom on your H. kerrii, and the flowers are so pretty! Mine has never bloomed either because it's been in a location with insufficient light. I moved it this spring to a brighter place and I sure hope I see peduncle's (bloom spurs) forming soon.
Here's the Plant Files info for H. kerrii: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/53912/
Lena, I would not worry about those "mushrooms" coming up out of the potting soil. It just means that you probably have a fair amount of organic material in your soil into which some mushroom or fungus spores found there way. It has nothing to do with your H. kerrii, and won't hurt it a bit. A couple years ago I used a locally made potting soil, and had mushrooms popping up for months in certain plants. I let a few of them grow out just because I found them kind of interesting.

That's funny; I found a couple of mushrooms last week in a pot of clivia's I'm germinating - they were brown, tall (about 2") and thin - I thought it was the plant growing! until I looked closely and saw the top of it had a small mushroom head.
But I really like the colours on yours Lena! Neon green is a great colour, even for a mushroom.
H. kerrii, once it starts to bloom just goes on and on. But it seems to want to bloom MORE when I grow it really really dry... I water mine about every 2-3 weeks!!! Our relative humidity is about 60% so it seems OK with that.....

I think many of us have had cute little mushrooms/fungi popping up in our houseplant soil at one time or another. As Doug stated, they are interesting to watch!
Here's a link telling a bit about these little cuties: http://botit.botany.wisc.edu/toms_fungi/feb2002.html
I've always heard they won't do any harm to the plants but are poisonous if ingested ... so, if you have young children or pets who like to nibble, just be aware. If you remove the little caps, they will not reproduce.
no children or pets (sadly....about the pets part). but its good to know that if I ever run out of food in the house not to turn to the mushrooms for nutrients. =) Mine grow really fast I would like to leave them growing like doug had mentioned but my goodness, within three days of watering that thing was huge. I have found many more peduncles on my kerrii so im that much more excited. I can't wait to be able to post pictures.
Lena
Look forward to seeing those beautiful blooms! I need to feed my plants and maybe they will surprise me with a few.
