Companion question blueberries and yarrow

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

Okay. I transplanted my blueberries into a permanent raised bed and they're doing well. Along with them came some yarrow roots so the bed also has yarrow, also doing well. I'm thinking the yarrow will make a nice groundcover under the blueberries, but I don't want them to choke them out, of course. Does anyone know, have any comments? I figure I'll let nature take its course here, but I do love my blueberries. Thanks!

I don't have any experience as my blueberries are still potted but little has been written about companion plants for the various fruits. As blueberries have such a shallow, fibrous root system, one problem would be competition for moisture and nutrients. In a controlled environment, you could manage that.

The only reference I have is on yarrows which are recommended for use to enhance essential oil production of other herbs. I know that what works for one may/may not for another due to microclimates, soil, even cultivars.

If you do leave the yarrow in place, please keep us posted on your results.

Thanks, pod -- will do. Might be one of those miraculous things! Or I could lose my berries. But then, life's a dance you learn as you go.
