citrus question

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

my sister has a meyer lemon that got hit hard by the freeze.. she lives in the SA area.. she has new growth coming up from the roots but the branches are dry and break easy and seem to be dead.. I told her to wait a bit to see what happens but she wants to know should she clip all the dead branches off or what..its planted in the ground not a pot.. I know NOTHING about citrus except it smells good when it blooms.. any help would be appreciated
thanks

We have a Meyer Lemon as well....and it took a hit in the freeze. We trimmed some of the black branches off, but have left the rest so far. We too have growth coming from the roots.....BUT ALSO coming from some of the trunk and branches. It seems to be coming up the tree as it is now about 3 to 4 feet up. So we have decided not to trim any more until we see what the tree decides to do

Our tree was well established on the south side of our house for about 5 years. Was approximately 7 foot tall. It's now 5 feet.

I bet the Meyer lemon was grafted on a different rootstock. Which means a different type of citrus plant is coming up. Mine is grafted on a flying dragon rootstock.
