I took this pic last month and at the time, I was sure it was a pair of house finches. Now, I'm looking at the male's red rump and wondering if house finches have red rumps? Book says that all the upperparts on the purple finch are red, but it only mentions a red head and breast for the house finch. What do you think?
House Finch is right!
Note the brown-streaked flanks (just visible) and the whitish wingbars (purplish-red in Purple Finch)
