Unable to resist TSC chick days

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

A little while ago, a number of you posted about buying chicks from TSC. I had been to our TSC, which had no chicks, so I went about my days in the secure knowledge that I was not going to fall victim to the same fate.

Alas, today I went to TSC to pick up a lamb nipple to put on one of my bottles because the lambs had chewed through the other one.

OH NO!!! TSC CHICK DAYS!!!!!

I was completely powerless...and here is what happened as a result:
First, two "Amberlink" pullets, which I think are roosters, but I'll keep mum on that until I know for sure. This is one of them. They are large and vociferous.

Two unknown breed but they looked interesting....thoughts?

Ha! The irresistible baby chick, none of us is immune. But what is an Amberlink? - besides cute.

The bantam batch all together.

This one's really purdy! Again, a bantam, but no clue on type.

I know nothing about bantams, but your TSC has a much better selection than mine did.
Those are some really winsome chicks.

I don't know much about the Amberlink Porkpal - it just got the better of me! From the name I am presuming it's a sex linked bird?

This little one is a honey too!

How many toes?

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

All have 4 toes, most of the banties have feathered legs.

I should've asked what hatchery they are dealing with. I know McMurray is in Iowa, so it might be their stock...

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Looks like Hoovers and Welp Hatcheries are also in Iowa. I shoudl see which one has DeKalb Amberlinks, if any.

Interesting about Amberlinks...they are an orginal American hybrid that has recently been re-introduced for small producers. Apparently they are really Dekalb Amberlinks.

Crossed! But mine has more info...cause I looked at yours first:0)

I thought the feather-legged chick looked a little Silkie, but not enough toes. Our local feed store just refers to the little ones as "banties" and doesn't seem to realise they must be a distinct breed. Do you know which hatchery your TSC uses?

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

I don't know, but I could call tomorrow and ask. They seem a little bit too small for cochins, don't you think? These are close to the tiniest banty chicks I've had. The only ones smaller were the serama ones I had a long time ago. My silkies have been bigger at hatch. Might be OEG. I haven't had any of those as chicks I don't think.

Cochin (Pekin) would be a good guess for the feather legged ones. Bantam Cochins seem very popular.

Unknowns look like my barred rock babies. But I'm hardly reliable...:(

Keep us posted. It will be interesting to see what they grow up to be. The grey ones especially strike me as unusual.

Claire Your just a fuzzy little puff ball, and I thought you'd be this tough take no prisoners Lawyer...I love the little grey ones, so striking and irresistable. You might be a push over but you have great taste...have fun.

LOL Love the pictures... I am fond of the grey one as well,

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I love the one with the black face and back stripe. It is to cute

Sigh.... I'm such a sucker for fuzzy babies, yours are darling! Went to the TSC today too and didn't even walk by the chick tanks. It was torture.

some of the chicks i got from mthealthy hatchery are dekalb amberlinks..they are supposed to be excellent layers of brown eggs..so i thought i would give them a try..the pullets i got look like the ones you have..they are really comical and run around like crazy at 1 week old..
