More Pig Pix

Okmulgee, OK(Zone 6b)

What's up y'all? You know in corporate America they have a hump day, but when you farm for a living you have a hump season. Actually two seasons, because summer, with all the harvesting, ain't much better. So I've been busy, but always enjoy this site. Pigs are growing, veggies are growing, and market season started last week. Hope everyone's doing well. There's some video about electric fencing on the blog ( www.thehaywire.typepad.com ) if you're interested.

those piggies are way cuter than the ones we see at the county fair!

The pigs they bring for the county fair here are brought from Seaboard Farms, one of the mega-producers, and they have to keep them in crates, even at the fair, because they know if they didn't all the piglets would be flattened like pancakes. They've bred the mothering ability right out of the pigs they raise. (and the flavor too!)

well ours are raised, mostly by 4H ers, but they all seem to be the same breed... i like to see variety in livestock, and i respect people who try to raise threatened and endangered more than "what everyone else already has"... it's just a weird personal thing i have. anyway my son thought they were great too, he wants one.
