Other than needing a few shrubs around the run fence it's finished. The babies LOVE being out there! They were laying in the sun on their sides, pecking everything, following me every where, they're so funny. They get the whole up and down the ramp, in and out of the coop thing too. I put their sand & DE box out in the run and all 19 were trying to get in it at once. There is a waterer in the run for them too. I just love my little darlings! I kept a big chunk of wood from the retaining wall to use as their buffet table. They were having a snack of oatmeal on it when I left. I still have to run out and check on them every 10 minutes. My husband jokingly said I should get a baby monitor to put in the coop... I think it's a great idea. Took the pic with my cell phone is it's not the best.
Coop & Fence Finished, finally.
Wow, super coop, lucky chicks! The statuary at the entry is a nice touch too.
Wow.. it's beautiful!!! I wish I had power outside.. it would keep me out there a LOT more! (and keep the house a lot cleaner I'm sure)
Congrats Annie, it's a beautiful set up.
Great looking coop and run. Picture perfect. I'm impressed with the nice job and professional touch. Makes me envious, and wished I was a carpenter. Talk about spoiled chickens...LOL. Hay
It's beautiful! Funny you should mention a baby monitor...I've been thinking the same thing for my coop as well!
Thanks, it was fun to do. My DN would spend every minute out there if she could. I had a hard time getting her to come inside and get ready for bed.
Oh, Juliette2009! I'm so glad you think the baby monitor is a good idea. I'm going to get one. I draw the line there, I won't put up a web cam in there instead.
Annie
Wow Annie that is one fine Chicken coop & run.
Mine are being done on the cheap but really still isn't cheap with having to pay for labor and materials. My coops will be plywood 4 x 8 off the ground built inside the cage/run Will post pics when done
Yes, it looks like a little red schoolhouse. That's really an awesome job. We all want one now.
That motion sensor light should help keep them safe too.
Congratulations!
Wonderful...
lol was just looking at the pictures and my husband goes, "oh, well whose chicken house is that?" like he's jealous because ours isn't as pretty... then he said "aren't you going to show them pictures of yours?" and i told him i already did, so that shut him up. and he felt a little better after i showed him the compliments.
i swear sometimes he's more of a child than the kid.
me, i was more jealous that you have real grass growing to walk barefoot in. you don't go barefoot in new mexico - all the vegetation is hostile - found that out the hard way when we first moved here.
I like all the chicken coops, even the little chicken tractors, no matter how simple, even those made with old tin. If the chickens are safe and happy, I'm happy.
Even the type of chickens we have is really irrelevant. The main thing is, we enjoy the eggs that keep us healthy. If you eat your chickens, at least you know where they came from. Have you seen the videos online of those big chicken factories? The chickens were so crowded, they looked pitiful.
My coop is not fancy, maybe I should buy a camera and take some pictures and make everybody feel superior. :D I had a great time though making it, but it was so much more difficult than I ever realized, and cost so much more too. I have such admiration for anyone that builds things now. At the hardware store they asked me, "How big do you want it?" I said about this big... well ... that wasn't good enough. lol... They told me to go home and decide how big I wanted it, then they could help me. Then they showed me the lumber, in what sizes it came in, and how much it cost. I knew nothing about such things, so that helped, but I still had no idea what I was doing. The DGers were so good to help me choose hardware clothe for wire, and answer all my questions. It was quite an experience, and I loved every minute of it, and actually felt like I was doing something useful for a change. It was a huge project to me, even if it is just a small coop.
Now, I have new roosters that I need to make new houses for. It's difficult for me... again.. to decide what and how to do this. I want to give them more room, but I don't want to get into something way over my head that I can't complete.
I loved your coop Cerridwenn. Tell your husband again, he did an awesome job. You have a great place there!
Hey, at least we are having fun! I enjoy these chickens so much, and thank all of you that have helped me these last few years learn about chickens and how to raise them.
We're still trying to finish our chicken house. It is beautifully designed, and framed, but AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhh still not done. Oh well. Very nice . I'm impressed.
I was given a few chicks for Mothers' day years ago, and I built a little coop for them using all scrap lumber (we have a lot of it). It took me about two days. I put it in an outward facing stall in the barn so the chickens could have the stall for an indoor run and could also go out into the pasture. Then I was given some more chicks for a birthday, so I built another little coop and also put it in the stall. Well, I now have four little coops all made from leftovers and the stall has no more extra space. The chickens are happily housed with others the same age and free range peacefully all day. They don't know their accommodations are odd, but I still covet the coop-Hiltons I see others build!
I covet the building skills of DG'er here. It's a good thing I wasn't in charge of progress, we'd still be living in caves. There was a used shed for sale, $75 bucks, I called but it was already sold. From now on I'll be watching the newspaper & the Penny Saver for them and dreaming of new chicks.
That's one sweet chicken coop. Nice work!
I do to covet the Hilton type coops, but nope I have old coops that I am sure when they were built a long time ago, they were wonderful... Even my baby coop that is up here by the house has seen better days, I got it shortly after I moved here, it was a rabbit hutch someone was throwing out.. So I got it, fixed it up and it was the first outside coop my first chickens had.. The door so needs to be replaced, and I do have a stack of pallets and some plywood waiting for the creative bug to hit me to make another small coop that I can have up here around the house... LOL
Cool coop! I'd go for the webcam (enabling, enabling, enabling)! =D
AnnieBBB, your coop is absolutely beautiful!! Awesome job!!! .
....I'm with Terri, I think you SHOULD have a 'chicken-cam'!! ~:>
How cool would that be!?
Post some pics of the inside, back side, etc.! Would love to see them! :)
Wow! Very nice chicken house, can't really call it a coop...lol! Lucky chickens
