Newbie question

Teguise, Spain

Due to ongoing building work, I havent been able to plant a Plumeria in the ground for 3 years, and this one has been in a pot for that long. Now its finally in the ground it will take off, but Im wanting it to branch out. It has developed a single stem with 2 branches that reach 4 feet in total height now. Could anyone advise me wether I should leave it as it is and expect it to start branching further down the stem, or would this be a good time to cut it down by half to achieve a bushier plant in the future? Ive read the Stickies and i know what I can do, but Id just like someone to let me know from personal experience what they would do rather than leave it as it is now, only to have to cut it back in a couple of years to encourage branching

Dominic, plumeria will branch naturally when they bloom. Usually you will see three branches but it can be just one, or sometimes as many as five.
Your plant is probably lanky from having been in a pot so long.
If you are in a climate that you can leave your tree in the ground year-round (meaning no frost) I strongly advise against cutting, and allow it to grow naturally. You will not get branching lower down the stem. If you cut it, it will sprout branches from the old leaf nodes near the top but this never makes for a tree-shape that is as satisfying as one that has been allowed to branch naturally.

Happy growing!

Built by my own hands, that dry stone wall. Shame about the fence I had to put on top when I got a dog that could jump it tho.........:))
Bougainvilleas etc should cover the fencing in a few years tho that I've planted
