I have a covered, wrap-around porch that faces the west. It doesn't really start to get any sun on the porch until about 3, maybe 4 o'clock in the afternoon. I know that impatiens do well in the shade, but if you look at my porch you'll see that I have a lot of space I'd like to fill and impatiens may start to look a tad repetitive ;)
Any ideas on other potted annuals to put out? I'd love your suggestions... Thanks!!!
Any suggestions for colorful annuals in the shade?
Why not some coleus, they come in so many different colors, leaf shapes and sizes. They would make a big color splash.
I would suggest coleus also, many can tolerate sun.
Torenia http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/249/ and wax begonias http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/209/ do well in containers in partial shade. .
Fuchsia! Gartenmeister or Billy Green should be good. Or an "upright" type. You can let fuchsias go dormant in an unheated garage in zone 6, water them ocassionally, and they wake up in the spring. I do it every year.
Nemesia would also probably work. Or diascia.
You could also try Black & Blue salvia for something big & dramatic, I've seen it do ok in partial shade in pots.
Thank you so much! You guys ROCK!!! I love Dave's Garden :)
