Wow.. I'd love to participate but will have to wait until I get a better variety of AVs and/or Gessies. I only have the 3 Optimara tagged NOIDs. If others don't mind I'd like to hold off until I get some more varieties in that will be better than just the over sold and overly easy to find Optimara AVs.

Would love to but have no goodies, so must decline. TU Tish Helene

Hi all,
I don't mean to but in here....but I guess I am LOL.I have seen many round robins here and often people are beginners and don't have much to send.
Many people have put in cuttings of house plants, even outdoor plants and bulbs,as well as things like Solo cups, little bags of plant food, all types of growing supplies, little homemade things, like plants and plant hangers made of beads, homemade Oyama pots,etc..
Just a few suggestions for you ^_^. Have a great time!!

Lynn

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Lynn had great suggestions for all who want to participate and don't have much in AVs. I'm always looking for hoya cuttings, unusual houseplants, etc. Last RR I got a different sansiveria, but unfortunately it froze to death this past winter. So, with those who want to join in: Please join us. I'm sure there is something you can find to include. The more the merrier.

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

Wish I could participate, but am basically starting over after the mealy bug problem. They seem to be gone, but I think in the process of eliminating those little critters, I may have fried some roots. I'll be watching to see what everyone gets, though, and hope to be back up to speed for the next swap.

BTW - gonna be a grandmother again in November :-)

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Congratulations Sharon!! I am excited for you ^_^.

Those are great suggestions Lynn.. I'm in the process of crocheting my first doily.. but I don't think I'm going to bother others with my not so great crochet work at this time. I think I'll wait until I get the patterns down better before I start sending something like that out..LOL

As for pots, I tend to keep mine around in case I need them, which I will soon since I've got 2 propagation projects going and both are growing well. I was hoping to have some baby plants by now but I think my soil was a still a little too dense. However, I've got roots out and on top of the soil right now that are growing in like 8 different directiions. I don't know if they are all from 1 leaf or are from 2 or all 3 leaves but I figured I'd leave things as they are for now until they reach that point when they'll need to be separated and placed in their very own little cups. I was thinking maybe a Crystal Light Mix containers might work well for them and then move them up to the solo cups once they get their roots established. Then once they've filled out the solo cup then move them up to a bigger cup or very small pot.

Anyway, I'll look around and see what I can find and worse case scenario I'll just have to wait until next year. No harm no foul. I just don't want to say yes and then end up not having anything to trade.

Grapefruit and lemon seedlings anyone? I had winter fever really badly this year and started any seeds I could lay my hands on....
:)

I edited the above post - first one - to include the names of everyone who wanted to participate. Please check to see that your name is there. I don't want to leave anyone out. I won't be sending until next week, so if we have a couple latecomers this weekend they can still be added.

I'm thinking of dividing names into 2 groups. Will that be okay? It will take about a week for each person to send/receive/repack the box. We can do just one name list and one box if you all prefer, just let me know...I'm okay with either way.

Akron, OH(Zone 5a)

One box means more selections but also probably higher postage cost. I'm newbie so whatever you ladies think is better will work for me. Have fun everyone, I'm so exited!

If there is a lot of people mabye two would be best!

(tish) near Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Fresh plant material in a box only lasts for about three people. So as the box goes along, some things will be removed because they are getting mushy or rotted. Remember each person takes some things out and puts some of their own back in, so there is always a selection in the box to pick from, so it doesn't matter if there is one box or two, the postage will still be the same, as the box will be full as it goes along, it will just take longer for some people to get the box. I'm okay with one box, I just wanted opinions from the rest of you. Hope this helps explain to the first timers! tish

Akron, OH(Zone 5a)

Well, then 2 boxes make sense, less time spent and less plants died I guess. BTW if someone receives dead pieces will she need to remove it or just leave there? Forgive my ignorance....

Chicago, IL

Lilypad I didn't see my name on the list. I hope it's not too late but I was gone on vacation and couldn't check it until now.

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

I am sure we would want any dead material taken out of the box.lol
Mrsbonnie

Last year I got the box in the middle and there were a lot of things that just were beyond saving. Believe me I tried anyway. Here's what I did based on what others said.

Watch the path of the box so you know when it's coming your way
Open box as soon as possible
Go through all things in box.
Use a room temp water or water and SuperTrhive soak for AV leaves that seem limp.
Remove dead items.
Trim wet rotting edges from strep leaves.
Get your stuff ready to add, packing it well - there is a post about how to do that somewhere
Take out no more than what you add
Enjoy the experience of being a kid in a plant candy store
Pack it up and send it as quickly as you can

I can't remember if there was a way to revive other types of leaves just that the AVs could go in a soak.

(tish) near Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

OK, the box is on the way. PO said 2 days, but I know they lie, I reminded her of the one that took 7 days. I was 3rd in line and had to wait over 20 minutes and then forgot the tracking as I was thinking about being ontime to pick up my grandson from school.

Upon D-mails and such it was decided to send just one box. As I said before, live plant material will only be good for a couple mailings, so take out what you want and replace with what you feel is fair. If there are any materials in the box you think will not make it to the next person, just take it out, toss it or keep & give it a chance, don't count it against what you took/replaced. Some limp things will revive when put in a baggie or under cover.

Annacanna has good advice. Especially to Have your plant material ready to replace in the box, the quicker the box gets mailed out, the better.

And post on the new thread when you send, receive and what you took out.

Please don't say what looked bad and what got tossed - poor things, we are better off not knowing. Someone once tossed a kohleria rhizome because they thought it was a worm!
