I moved to Conroe, TX last year and was amazed at the number of hummingbirds in the area. Until late fall, I could hardly keep three feeders full. So far, this spring, there's no sign of them. The spiders are waiting, one feeder is waiting. My yard has more of their favorite plants than before. Maybe their habits don't include returning to the same area. Any ideas?
Monarchs, on the other hand, are everywhere.
Thanks for your input.
Has anyone seen hummingbirds in East Texas?
Check out Hummingbirds.net. They have migration maps that show where Hummers are reported as they migrate northward. They are likely in your area. As the population #s increase during migration, you are more likely to see them. My understanding is that Hummers are creatures of habit, they return to familiar places. I am also in a new house this spring, and I have seen a few Hummers, but not many. The previous owners had not planted a Hummingbird garden, which I am in the process of doing. My thought is that as each year passes, my yard will be more and more on the radar. With each year (hopefully) more and more offspring will hatch and grow in my area, and return the following year.
