The house that me and my wife are moving into in May has a HUGE Sago Palm in the Backyard. It is right in the way of where my wife wants her hydrangea bed. Here are the 2 questions I have.
1. How hard would it be to dig one up that has a prawn span of about 6 feet and a really thick trunk on it?
2. Would anyone be interested in owning it if they help me dig it up and do some trading for it? ;)
It is really massive and very nicely shaped, it just doesn't fit in with the plans we have for the backyard.
P.S. The house was my Grandmothers and she passed away last year and I don't want to just cut it down, I would like to see it go to a new home if possible.
Anyone interested?
I would guess that the 'tap' root will be as deep as it is tall AND the 'rootball' will be as wide as it is.
Excessive amt of work to dig it up but a shame to cut it down.
I would guess that it is probably 25+ yrs old fr the size you say it is.
I'll ck with Smock for more details.
:~)
You might check with local landscapers or greenhouses and see if they know anyone that might want it and would be willing to do the digging.
Podster is right...we have a local landscaper that has removed items for us that were acceptable plants placed in the wrong place...and he has the crews and equipment to do the job safely...just ensure that he is bonded in case something happens.
