Ponytail palm in Florida

Englewood, FL

I have 2 ponytail palms and after this really bad winter, losing all of my Christmas palms, one of the ponytail palms shoots what looks like a Christmas tree up from the top of it. The usual palm leaves are kind of spread out around the base of this upshoot kind of like a nest! Does anyone know what this is?

I think it might be making a bloom!! I have been waiting for mine to do that for years (in vain).

Here is a picture of the bloom I found on the web.

You are lucky yours survived - both of mine succumbed to the freeze.

It is the ONLY way to propagate that plant (actually a Dracaena)...is from seed. I love it!!!

The only way? They grow very easily from cuttings.
And I hate to disagree but, while they are in the same family as Dracaena (Ruscaceae), they are Beaucarnea recurvata.

Well, darn...that's what I get for believing everything I hear!!!!

I was told that info by a landscaper from Florida...guess I shall have to try myself!!! Thanks, Hetty!
