I hope it's okay to post this. I was looking today for chicken coop ideas, and ran across it. It is interesting to me personally because my daughter married a Bontrager, which is also this man's name. Her husband's family were Mennonites. So, I have a little Bontrager grandson.
I really liked the part where he shows installing the hinge for the door for the eggs. It's a simple design and he takes great pains in explaining exactly how it's done.

That is a really interesting video. I made one based on Mother Earth, but I like this one better.
Yes. I like the way he uses the word "sufficient". The tin is "sufficient". He's looking for sufficient, not fancy.
He was a little unclear on the string part of it. Does he pull that part up at night to lock them in? That would make sense, since there is no wire on the bottom, and a predator could easily dig under. He also has his dog running around, so that probably helps too.
For my roosters at the horse lot, I won't be there all the time, so I have to put wire on the bottom, or dig around it. For now, I'm putting wire. One of these days I may rent a trencher and dig down 1 1/2 feet and put in cement and a new fence. Then maybe that plastic poultry netting over the top. I have big dreams. lol Oh well, it keeps me out of trouble.
That looks like a great coop. I just wish he had a parts list so that I knew exactly what to get/find. I think I've figured it out.
So glad you found it useful. I watched it several times myself, and learned something each time.
