Looks like some kind of moth cocoon, but I don't know which kind of moth.

My bet is spider egg sac.

Awfully big for a spider. If it is,I don't want to be around when it hatches...LOL

Indeed, Red! The stuff of movies! :-)

I have seen some garen spider egg sacs (we call them writing spiders) that were pretty big. The shape is not right for that, though.

and wouldn't you know...I left it on the seat of my Gator and now it's gone so I can't watch it hatch now.

Sorry about the spelling. I meant GARDEN spider...hadn't finished my first cup of coffee yet.

At least you didn't leave it inside. I did that once with a praying mantis eggsac I found when I was a kid. The warmth of the house made them hatch!. Had baby praying mantis all over the house in December! My mother was soooooo NOT happy!

No it was outside so it's blowing in the wind. I wished I could find some more praying mantis eggs/cocoon....it'd put it in the greenhouse. I think baby mantis are just too cute but the adults give me the willys.

I know of several mothers that had that happen to them and none of them were happy about it.. I cant understand why not??...loll

Good to know that I wasn't the only weird little kid, Raven! :-)
Mothers do put up with a lot, don't they!?!

Lewisville, TX(Zone 7b)

I was going to say a praying mantid egg pouch... but it's hard to tell as it was only one side of the sac & a little too close to the camera... put it in a glass jar, poke holes in the lid & leave a leaf in it & see of anything happens. lol

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

I left it laying on the seat of my Gator and it blew away...or something snagged it up
