We have a Plumeria that is rather tall before it branches out to leaves and blooms. IF we cut the branched part off will it hurt the plant? Will the stalk left branch again? This year? Will the new cut piece bloom this year? (it has buds)
AND......how is this done? By saw? Clippers? And do you let the cut piece dry and heal before planting? Do you cover the remaining stalk so rain does not get in it?
Thanks.

First Plumie surgery........
Oh - so many questions!! Did you read the sticky thread - it has lots of hints.
to take your questions in order: NO
YES
YES
MAYBE
Saw is good or knife, clippers
YES on the healing
and yes, you could drizzle some candle wax on it.
Good luck. If it has a bloom bud I would not do this now.....
Thank you so much. Would you wait until after it blooms? Maybe do this in the fall? We put ours in the garage in the winter time. Would it still grow roots then?
Theoretically now is the best time to take and root cuttings. But your bloom buds MAY or MAY NOT survive the cutting and personally I would not take that chance.
Cut in the fall when it goes dormant, and keep the cutting in a cool dry place until spring and then root it. You'll likely have three tips by then if it blooms for you this year.
