When we first moved to Texas about 5 years ago we planted a Flowering Senna Tree. It was small but gorgeous when blooming. After this last cold spell this winter, it does not have any leaves and seems quite brittle. Will this come back from the roots??
This is what is used to look like. As you can see it was well established.
Thanks All.

Flowering Senna Question???????
If it is Senna Corymbosa they can get killed by cold, I had one that had the same problem,

But it still may come back from the roots, I wouldn't give up yet.
Pam ~ how cold did it get and how long did it stay below freezing for you? We had a 36 hour period below freezing and three snows this past winter. One of the snows was approx 6-8 inches deep and lasted 24 hours.
My Senna lost the tender new growth on its' branch tips but is still green. I need to trim back the crispy parts. I did not have a lot of lush new growth as mine is 2 years old and only about 4' tall. I suspect yours will come back from roots if not sprouting on the limbs and branches. I think a little more patience is in order. Yours was a very pretty tree.
We had about 4 nights of the 20's. But it would warm up during the day above freezing. Even our Citrus trees are coming back with leaves.
The only snow we had was just an inch or two and melted quickly.
There is really no rhyme or reason to the damage this past winter has done to our plants, is there?
Your senna looks very full, mine received no extra moisture or fertilizer and looks sparse in comparison.
I just wonder why one is affected more than another. Please let us know if it returns...
Isn't it amazing what makes it and what croaks? I lost hibiscus, duranta, oleanders, etc. but had an unknown small citrus tree in a pot. I left it sitting on the uncovered patio, exposed to the full brunt of the freeze and snow, and it never lost it's leaves. It's putting out new growth like crazy. Who would have figured all the inground stuff that you'd think was hardier than the citrus died, but not the citrus in a pot.
I hope your senna comes back from the roots. It was a lovely specimen tree.
