Look what I got at Lowes! It's Optimara, probably Everfloris but I couldn't find a match on their website. Anyone familiar with this unusual AV? Maybe other series like World traveler or States etc.?
The new beauty
Very pretty. Congrats on your new find :)
Connie
I agree with Connie ..Love the Optimara Varieties..they grow huge..congrats..No idea on what it may be..
Sonia
no idea but what a beauty, they have some of the prettiest.
mrsbonnie
Thanks for the compliments, this one does look different. I even don't know what the flower type is -- neither double nor ruffled and probably not star as well... And definitely I'll be back to Lowes often, they may have something interesting again!
Maria
Maria,
What a beautiful plant!! It is so hard to identify them, but I will try to help.
Lynn
Will appreciate any suggestion Lynn. I suspect it to be an Everfloris because (1) it's a bigger plant, looks like large standard and (2) it was on the separate rack with other Everfloris pots at the store. The only problem -- no Optimara Evfl has flowers like these. Could be the bar code of any help?
Hi carpathiangirl,
I'm pretty sure it is not an Everfloris. What size pot is it in? Everfloris come in 6 inch pots.
I think it is Hiroshige. It may not look exactly like it right now. They change a lot after they re-bloom under your own growing conditions. It is one of the prettiest ones , in my opinion, that they put out.
Lacewing1
Thanks Lacewing for the suggestion. Well, the color looks different and I agree, it may vary and change because of growing conditions. But the flower shape -- definitely not the single like Hiroshide is described.... And yes, 6 in. pot. What a mystery lol.
Well, you've got me! That's a mystery, all-right. I'd like to see it again when it re-blooms for you. I know that will be a good while, but please re-post it then. Thanks.
OK! Went and looked again. My only other guess is GLACIER, in the National Parks series. That flower shape resembles yours the most. Let me know what you think.
Lacewing
You know what, that's probably it! I checked the Glacier before but got confused by the color -- pure white (Gl) vs. blue hues (mine) and also the size -- small standard vs 14 in. diameter! Besides it keeps blooming and opening the new flowers. I'll post the new pic soon. Appreciate your help Lacewing!
Wow! The plants down here from Lowes never look that good! What a great find!
Pat
If the tag has a number on it you might be able to look it up.
Yup! That's my final answer and I'm stickin to it! LOL
When I first saw your pic It sure reminded me of the Hiroshige I used to grow. I could have sworn that's what it was. I didn't pay attention to the flower shape. That's the only white they have listed with that type of bloom. I didn't know Optimara was selling some of their standards in 6 inch pots. Thanks for that info, hopefully my Lowes will get some.
Lacewing
Lacewing, you did a great job! The mystery solved and it's me who has to say 'thank you'. Good luck on the treasure hunt but if not you're welcome to a few leaves.
p.s. Gonna be back with the new pic.
Maria
Guess what! I found one today. It's not the larger pot, but a 4 inch for $2.78. Can't beat that! Curious, what were the larger ones selling for? Thank you for offering leaves. I like instant gratification, so luckily I found one. I just don't have the patience to grow from leaves. It really is a beauty.
Lacewing
Congrats, great deal! Mine was $6 but I hesitated only a few secs lol. Definitely worth it. Did they have anything else?
P.S. would love to see the pic, please?
Yes, it's the same plant! You may get bluish hues later. So Glacier or Hiroshige -- that's the question! lol
Hi, here's my pic
http://s487.photobucket.com/albums/rr236/sedpm123/
Oh boy! I have to admit I don't know how to post pictures. I am totally dense when it comes to learning this stuff. Had to get DH to help me out. Any way there it is, Whew! Maybe some day I will get it.
Lacewing
Goo job Lacewing! I also upload my pics only when they all set and I just have to click one last time lol.
BTW what is the best way to remove the spent flowers? Pinch 'em or remove the whole stem? Sometimes the stem stays green and firm for a long time and I'm afraid to broke something else... Am I silly?
No, I don't think you're silly. I pinch off the individual flowers as they fade. Then later when all the blossoms are not intertwined it's easier to reach way down on the stalk. Just wiggle it from side to side. It usually snaps off pretty easily.

I just looked on Optimara's website and did a more extensive search and to me your AV looks like Rhapsodie Clementine - http://www.optimara.com/optimarafieldguide/varietiesa-l/clementine.html - But of course that depends on whether or not yours has a red reverse on the leaves. Of course, it's very possible that Lacewing hit the nial on the head. I have 3 Optimara Violets (or at least they have the Optimara ID tag) that my parents purchased for me as gifts from a local Publix and each doesn't quite exactly fit any 1 specific bloom type they have listed on their site...lol
You could try going to either the Violet Barn's webstie or another reputable AV grower/hybridizer's website and see if one of their Optimara types fit your little beauty there. Either way, your little find is absolutely gorgeous :)
Thanks Katie for the suggestion, It was so nice to find a great deal of help and support here, you ladies are awesome! Now about Clementine -- I checked her out and found some differences in the flower shape and mostly leaves which are medium green with no red reverse. So I think I'm gonna enjoy her mo matter what the name is lol. But I definitely enjoyed browsing the Violet Barn, their plants are amazing!
I completely understand.. I just thought I'd suggest her as I didn't see anything mentioning whether or not she had a red reverse and thought that if she did then Clementine could have been a match. ;) There are just soo many different AVs out there and Optimara is as bad if not worse about having similar varieties of AV where you can't really identify who is who o.O
I've got one of these too (for a few years now).
Probably got it from Lowes.
Well, My last sprigs of flowers are now lbue, what's with that? Who do I have "Hiroshige" or "Glacier", not "clementine" flowers are different.
After hours of browsing and discussion my bet is Glasier, seems to be the closest match for the flower/leaves type and color.
optimara was never very reliable accept their state named violets. But then mine came from a diff. grower not directly Opti. nevertheless very beautiful for $3.00. Was instant gratification. I have been growing for more than 30 years -there were about 8 years in between when I had not one...long story.
What color blue are they Helene? If they go from white to almost completely blue then I'd say it's Hiroshige if they are just slightly blue in the center then it could possibly be Glacier. here's a picture of Hiroshige from Optimara's website and here's another picture from Webshots of Hiroshige - http://image02.webshots.com/2/2/26/50/45622650NRWHCv_ph.jpg ...

Very pretty plant :)
Connie
SilverTigris/, light blue now toward end of blooming. So I am calling it Hiroshig. Not Chagall or Haiti.
carpathiangirl/ my flowers are the same shape. My plant is not so big and has suckers. But will fix it up for next bloom.
I grow to have them throughout the house. They are in a sunny area until they bloom then they go to Bathrooms, Bedrooms and such. When they done ,new blooming ones go in. So it doesn't matter what their names are. But like to grow registered because that's what I had all along.... Helene
I agree helene, most definitely more Hiroshige not Chagall or Haiti.
