this spring I created a fountian out of EE castings... some of you might have seen it when I posted about the making of it on the garden art and T to T forums.... Well today I was siting on my porch visiting with my girlfriend when I had the honor of watching a ruby throated hummer come to rest on the edge of one of the leaves and proceed to take a bath.. IT WAS SO COOL!!! he took a few drinks and then got down to business and for his size the water flew..lol.. he wiggled and he waggled into the water and then fluffed himself up!!! he was there for quite a while till another male chased him away.. and of course my camera was in the house and not on the porch...
While I have water features cause I love water seeing him take a bath made all the effort and work worth it.. it was one of those ahhh moments...
this is the fountian with out the hummer
Im so glad I made this... cross post from Tx gardening
Very cool!!! Love that hummie story!!! Do hope you'll soon be able to share hummie bathing photos!!!
I saw one taking a 'bath' on the big leaves of the chalice vine - water gathers on the large leaves from the morning dew. It was great to watch this one fly to a leaf and rub itself up it. Then it would stop and preen...make a run up another leaf for more water and continue to preen :o)
The only photos I got were blurry but here's one of the better ones.
