Babka

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I made a loaf for yesterday's breakfast using this recipe:

I substituted chocolate/hazelnut spread (I have a huge jar of World Market's nutella-like spread) for the filling. All I can say is "wow." It was really yummy - definitely a keeper recipe. The dough was very moist and soft...more like cake than bread. Perfect for a weekend breakfast treat, and easy to make the night before.

From a little investigating, it looks like some babkas are shaped into loaves while others are round - somewhere between a bundt and a panettone.

Next time I think I'll try making a cinnamon-filled babka, which - according to the Seinfeld episode about babka - is not a lesser babka:

Anybody else have a favorite babka recipe? I think there are probably as many variations as there are cooks.
