It looks like a Pecan or a Sumac.

We have those and I think they're Sumac.

Hey guys thanks, but I dont see anything in the plant files under Sumac that look like this tree. Unless this plant loses it Velvet feel. But I do have a lot of those Sumac's I see in the Plant files. They are everywhere!
I am going to bring a piece of this tree with me Saturday to show you at the roundup.

This looks just like one of my Soapberry trees when they bud out. Mine are in this exact state right now so I will take a pic later this week.

Great Juju! I can understand why it would be called Soap, it has the texture. I dont remember what it look like when it gets older because I only go around that side of the house once a year. I rarely get to see the rose bushes bloom.

The Soapberry makes an amber colored transparent berry. They are very easy to identify. If it is taller than 6 feet, it may have produced some already.

It look like berries are there because the leaves have not unfurled yet. I look for it tin the Plant files but Soapberry did not come up. I saw another piece growing in the shrubs out front. I just love the feel of the leaves, it feels like velvet.

There arent any pics of newly budding leaves which look different than the leaves that have been out for a few months. You wont get the berries until later in the year.

JuJu, thanks for the pics ... I got this trash tree all over the place. Look at Ineedacupoftea's picture. I have those seedling everywhere. All that yellow stuff hanging off them is all over my back yard. How do you deal with all the seedlings? Since I know what it is, there is one by the fence I am going to let stay there because I need all the shade I can get. I am going to keep watch on this tree and let you know if its the same thing.

More than likely, those are not seedlings. If it is a Western Soapberry, those will be suckers. A root system from the main tree shoots up baby trees. Some could be seedlings but I suspect most are suckers. You also want to confirm that this is not a Chinaberry tree. They are very similar except that Chinaberry has yellow berries that you cant see through and Soapberry has amber colored berries that are transparent.

The good news! You can wash your clothes with Soapberries. Just remove the seed from berry and put about 8 berries in a small cloth bag. You can do about 3-4 loads with that bag. It is used widely in India and China. The berries are very expensive too.

Just make sure it isnt a Chinaberry.

Yeah, you are right, they are suckers. Before I moved here, my neighbors tells me, there was ahuge tree that they had to dig up becuase the roots were tearing up the plumbing. There are huge roots in the ground that look like logs running through the ground. I had some of them removed and used them for firewood, they were just that big! So these 'suckers' were coming up all over the place. I am going to take more pictures, I might be talking about 2 or 3 different trees. lol
