Updated pictures of my little darlings. I just LOVE these guys and gals!! They're in a gawky gangly stage but I see their beauty loud and clear!!

Ok, I'm a little tougher now and can take it when a girlie turns out to be a roo haha. This is my beloved EE, Bernadette, I'm fairly sure she is a roo as she and another were the very last ones to get tail feathers. She's also a very different color than the other EE's. I have 13 EE, 4 Buff Orps, 3 Silkies.

Here is Bernadette in the front - the black and white one.

This is Bernadette's fanny, it's hard to see her little tail feathers, they are pointing straight up. Roo, correct?

I think this one (EE'er), to the far right, is a roo too. Poor thing really got upset when the flash went off on the camera!

I just want to think this Silkie is a girl, she's so tiny and friendly!

This is Vivian. And I'm NOT changing her name LOL.

Thank you, I just LOVE my chickies! Tonight after dinner my DH & DN and I sat in the pen playing with and watching them. The dogs were out with us and the cats were sittng in the doorway of the garage watching. It was heaven LOL We might be a little crazy.

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Nope not crazy, just a normal Chicken head... LOL

I suppose we are Chicken Heads LOL. It's so fun! The coop comes TOMOROW!!! We had to go through all kinds of stuff to get it, I wanted it closer to the house so we had to dig into the hillside for the platform, it took support beams, lots of cemenet, partial retaining wall, . Why have chickens if we can't watch them and interact with them and have them join us on the patio? It'll take a few more days until the electric is run out there, it's still cold so they'll need heat at night and the fence is a week away from being done. At least they'll have more fun in a bigger area even if it's inside. I even got a motion light for the front of the coop, if a coyote so much as walks within 50 ft of it at night the light will go off and one of the bulbs will be aimed at the house so I'll know. We love our chickies!

Wow annie you have beautiful babies! you are gonna so enjoy having them close to the house so you can watch them. You do get used to the crowing and evetually will sleep right thru it.I can't wait to see pics of the whole setup with those lil cuties running around!

Thank you! My friends (dog and horse people) think I'm crazy to have fallen so hard for chickens, but I just love them!!! I wish I could keep a rooster, but it's not allowed here. I love the look of them and roo-ish behavior, protecting their girls and being so bold. I'm going to hang on to all of them and hope one of them is not a prolific crower so I can hide him LOL Have to find the battery charger so I can take pics.

Yes, Just found you guys this morning. However I am only a chicken owner wannabe so don't really belong. I can't have chickens here in surbanville neighborhood. I just keep dreaming!

Richmond, TX

Chicken-head wannabes are welcome too.

Most years I look at the McMurray on line catalog and dream. I use to send for their paper catalog before the internet. That's how long I have been looking. So I like to read about what other people are doing.

Rita, I had no idea you were interested in chickens! To All - Rita is one of the Goddesses of flower gardening. Her gardens are worthy of any magazine cover and garden tour. Her talents are amazing!

Can't you find a place to hide a couple hens? There are a few breeds that are more quiet than others. Chicken poo is such great compost and your flowers would love you for it. Your chickens would love to help you keep the gardens bug and weed free too. Great to see you Rita!

My yard is not fenced. Can't be fenced either. I live in a town that is actually an incorporated city. Not enlightened. No beekeeping within city limits. No roosters ever. To keep hens you need a city permit. To get a city permit you have to go to the city council and there has to be a public meeting called upon your application. They really don't want you to have them.

Annie, thank you for your kind words about my garden. It really is just my hobby that I have been working on for years.

(Zone 5b)

That's too bad and what a hassle, you would be such a good chicken mamma!

You're too modest about your flower garden, it's positively AWESOME!

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

Oh, no rabbits or pigs allowed within city limits. No goats or cows either. Really I can understand the big livestock not working in a suburban neighborhood but a rabitt hutch would no big deal. But no rabits, bees or chickens for us city folk.

(Zone 5b)

Oh Well, that just gives you all the more time to work on your gardens instead. I took your advice about the roses, thank you! Can't wait to see pics of your gardens this year.
