Indoor veggies growing big!

Richland, WA(Zone 7b)

All of my Tomato & Pepper seedlings are growing great- so fast that I had to figure a way to support them without potting up. Here's what I did last night- took some styrofoam cups, cut off the bottoms about 1" from the bottom, then slit the edge in 4 places so I could tuck them inside the top of the planted cups- 2 pieces of tape to secure them, then I spooned in soil almost up to the tops. They should be happy until they can go in the ground. At that time I will just tear off the bottoms to free the roots and plant all the rest. I have 11 varieties of Tomatoes, and 4 Peppers.

Pretty ingenious (sp?) idea Jo... You probably have a while before you can plant them out I suspect...

Great idea!

Wow, I need to get some cups.

I have been hauling them all in and out for weeks now- day temps are good but the nights are too cool. Maybe next week I can start putting some in the ground. I always have backups in case of a disaster! (I am a very impatient gardener!) I have a few Kwintus Pole Beans in the ground now that I sprouted inside. So far they look good- they are in the warm south side of the house.

I am very impatient as well. I started some bush beans inside even though they start better outside.

Very clever! You might leave the top portion on the tomatoes when you plant as a prevention collar.
