Go to www.nola.com and click on Times Picayune link. I love the New Orleans newspaper, but haven't bought one yet. The large print above the fold annoucement of this article is impressive. I got a pic at the newsstand and will post it when we get home.
Had raw oysters AND oyster poboys for lunch.
Kicking back in a French Quarter Hotel and enjoying music from a venue set up outside a restaurant across the street from our balconey.
How sweet these days are. Enjoying lots of fun things.
Wish you were here!

sounds like quite the nice day for you!!!... enjoy it! I have a girl friend coming in this week from Az shes staying with me for a few days then heading to NO.. I was invited to go but cant find a Doggie sitter. Oh well...
Right after Katrina,...I worked over the for a while....and enjoyed the best seafood....especially enjoyed the oyster poboys you mentioned. Did some fishin' as well....and have to say....it reminded me of the Texas coast of yesteryears when crab, shrimp, oysters, speckled trout, redfish, etc was abundant and seemingly endless....it truly is a Sportsman's Paradise...i believe that's what's on their auto liscense plates.
Many years ago when I taught school on the Bayou south of New Orleans, I lived among the Cajuns. Folks were shrimpers so my access to great fresh seafood was endless. My students trapped animals for their spending money. Nutria had not been introduced to the area for very long. They were multiplying quickly. They grew huge and fetched a good price for their pelts...... That's another story and will be in my book someday...when I learn how to spell "pee-row".
Glad you and the Hubby got away and had a great time. Let's see....you can get away to N.O. but not up my way....am I missing something ????
Oh well, That's Galveston ! (private joke).
DH, did the raw oysters work ?
I looked, but didn't see anything about the nutria. I was interested because I just had one on my front doorstep recently and had to have animal control come get it. They are really strange little critters with their bright orange teeth and webbed back feet.
Well, duh! I just figured out it was in yesterday's paper which was when you posted, so I'm too late getting to it to ready the article.
Glad you're having fun in NO!
Crow
I have a brother-in-law who dips skoal with bright orange teeth.....AND he has webbed feet.....guess I'll call him Nutria from now on!
Real humor on this thread and flashbacks to Galveston Bay where I grew up. Had access to a pier and had lot of fun on the water.
DH doesn't read dave's and I'll not answer the question about the oysters! I will say we had a pretty good time all the way around...
Crow, I especially thought of you when I saw the headlines. I'll get on my computer tomorrow and try to post a link.
Blkraven2, try Ward's Animal Hospital. Ask for a special rate for the several days. Don't know if they'll do it, but it's worth a try.
