My clivia just blooming....
Isn't she beautiful???
Mine are in the ground and are just about ready to burst in full bloom.
kayjones, if you grow them in the ground in zone 8b, I should be able to do the same in zone 9, doncha think?
GAgirl, so pretty, how long have you had that pretty clivia?
which is easier to find, the orange or the yellow clivia?
Yes, you should. The orange is the easiest to find.
Yes the orange is the easiest to find, the yellow more rare and more expensive. I have had mine 3-4 years. This is the first time it has bloomed like that. I left it out on my covered and protected deck this winter. I have two others that I kept inside and they haven't even set blooms, so I moved them outside about 2 weeks ago so the cool nights would trigger them to bloom. They are beautiful!!
Kay post a picture of yours when they bloom. I went near Tampa several years ago and saw some planted in the ground and the lady said they did fine for her. I am scared to try it because we get a little colder and especially the last two winters with some 'teen' weather.
Gorgeous!
Mine is blooming in the greenhouse. The poor thing is so root-bound I should repot it. I'm thinking of just plunking the whole thing into a larger pot instead of dividing it. I certainly don't want more clivia kids. LOL
Very nice. So buttery yellow.
Thanks! As you can see, our extreme winter took its toll on some of the leaves. I pray this coming winter won't be as harsh. I did have my Clivias covered with a flower pot - I think I probably would have suffered some losses if I hadn't done so.
It's beautiful, Kay!!
Oh, thank you!
Vossner - I also have them in the ground. But you will have to bait. The snails live the clivia leaves alone, but they love the flowers.
One of these days, the yellow clivia will come down enough in price for me to even think about getting one.
Now they are really looking good. I just LOVE this time of year.
Yes, I love spring, too. These blooms will only last a few more days, they they MIGHT go to seed.
