My serama pair from Jerry came today!!!!!

Gridley, IL

im so excited! My pair from Jerry came today.I ordered class C. I did let him know i was wanting a good pair to start my line with good conformation.I think the hen might be a class B shes much smaller then the roo.Im kinda surprised tho as my bantams are actually smaller than this pair. She also laid an egg in the shipping box im gonna try to incubate it.

I think you like them...right?:0)

My Dutch bantam are smaller than my largest Serama...I have one gorgeous roo who is right out of class...but he throws small chicks.

Too cool. I'm happy for you SHE!! Won't be long before you get babiez now! Congrats!

Gridley, IL

What would you guess the class to be on each one?I just got them, they are supposed to be C class but the hen sure is smaller.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

That would be near impossible to guess by a photo.. It's even hard in real life! You can weigh them on a food scale. I was just telling Haystack about it. They are cheap at Walmart if you don't have one. I just dug mine out and it does have gram weights on it!!

Here is a proposed class weight...but most breeders agree you don't really want very small A Class birds as breeders. Some birds will produce smaller A and B class chicks, even though they are larger themselves. And the larger birds, especially pullets, produce better eggs and chicks. The perfect breeder hen is supposed to be a B Class that produces A and B chicks.

I want a small A class bird.. I don't care.. I at least want ONE! :)

Gridley, IL

on jerrys site it says that A class and michros are not good breesers. It also says that C will produce A,B and C class birds.Im hopeing mine will produce B and A. The egg my hen laid was smaller than any of the eggs I had in the bator from the breeder and even smaller than my tiny bantams eggs so i hope that is a good indicator of the chick size possabilitys
here is that link to jerrys page explaining the sizes.

im so excited about them.I have an adult pair that i can start incubating eggs from right now.I couldent be more tickled.I might end up buying some B class breeders from him when he has some again. He is all sold out of michro,A AND B pairs right now.I keep going out to the barn to check n them and just watch them.one pair isent much but ill get some keepers out of them and mabie buy another pair or so this year to get a good gene pool going.Do any of you guys sell adult pairs?

This is my smallest roo, Wilder. He just moved into B class...but his chicks look larger than those of my too big to be C roo, Darcy. It is strange.

Ohh catsy hes beautiful im so in love with this breed! My hen is much smaller then my roo im going to get a scale soon. I just hope i can get them to stay on it long enough to get a weight. In the mean time i will try to measure the hight of them. How often do your hens lay? Im going to give her a banny egg in her nest tonight to mabie get her to lay another as the one i have now was with the birds when i got them.I dont know if she laid it during shipping or at the post office today before i picked them up.I have it sitting in my kitchen now to let it settle. Im hoping to get a few more to put in the bator.

Some of my pullets lay five or six eggs a week...some three. It depends on the hen and the time of year, I think.

how long do you keep your serama eggs before you put them in the incubator? I guess what im asking is do they last as long as other breeds eggs or should i just do like 4 or 5 at a time and get them in early?

Ferndale, WA

They are pretty much the same as the standard chick's, but most generally do hatch a couple days earlier, though not always. I'm so happy for you SheWolfie, hope you have a great time with them. Hay

Lodi, United States

I think they last as long if they are handled carefully. The just don't ship well.

In general, you never want to set a newly laid egg. They say to wait at least 24 hours...the hen usually lays for about a week before she sets, and eggs usually remain optimally fertile for that length of time.

I don't think Seramas are any different.

Gridley, IL

Oh Hey im gonna have an awesome time with them! I wanted them so bad.I was so bummed that my eggs dident hatch but now i have my first adult laying pair and i dont have to wait for chicks to mature to get eggs going! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee oh happy day! Im gonna spoil them rotten.

Im going to name them ying(roo) and yang(hen) for now then i might change it when i see the personalitys after they settle in. Im going to check into showing them and see where the shows are in the area.I think it would be fun.Im sure i would have to get them into condition first. Yang has alot of bald spots right now.I have alot to learn but im thinking showing some of the breeds i have will be fun. I have millei fluer cochin bantams comming at the end of april they are so beautiful.I love my cochins also.In that same shipment i have black copper marans, blue marans, white capped blue polish(standard) and i think nagasett and bronze haretage turkeys. Then i have another order comming in may for Hopefully buckeye,Blue standard cochin, buff Brahma, and something else i think i cant remember.I also had 5 out of 6 salmon favoerolles hatch tho one is mostly black(interesting)

She_Wolfie you have it backwards: Yin is the female principle and Yang the male. Was that on purpose?

Ferndale, WA
