My neighbor lady cornered me yesterday and thanked me for my chickens. While she was out of town they got into her flower bed... hence the reason I've been fixing fence like mad. She said she came home, all thrilled bc her grandkids had cleaned out her flowerbed (she's like 90). Then she saw the little 3 toed foot prints & realized my darling chickens had cleaned it for her. She said it was even better & they could come over anytime they wished. They ate all the bugs, tilled the dirt, threw all the leaves out (so they could blow into my yard...) and hopefully ate a few baby snakes in the process. (ewww) She was so very happy. Then she asked if they'd bothered to start laying yet. I told her yes & she sent me running home for eggs. I gave her a price.. she tipped me $2 for all the hard work my chickens did. :)
I busted my rear for days trying to get fence put back, fixed, patched, wired up. The lady on one side, they use to feed the chickens when they were cute & small.. scraps off the back porch.. now she doesn't want them around. Now I'm forced to clip wings & restring 100 yards of fence bc the lady refused to listen to me when they were cute... when i told her to stop feeding them. I was so afraid the lady on the other side would be upset about her flowerbed. She's only upset bc i keep the chickens from coming to visit her!
Good neighbors
LOL, That;s way too funny
Too funny, you should let her see a baby or two..
Mabie she would let you fence around her yard and your yard giving them 2 yards to work in.

I thought of that... but she doesn't own the house.. her son does I believe & I'm sure they wouldn't approve.... They are never there to "see" my chickens in her yard. Its just plastic chicken wire that I threw up there, I may pull it back down & let them over to visit on certain days. Then pen them back up again. :)
She's this very sweet lady who hasn't seen me but a few times a year for years. She's rarely outside anymore, you have to go hunt her up usually to talk. BUT she remembers my birthday, my age & never forgets my face. She is an amazing lady.
what a great story
Sounds like she enjoys them as much as you do thats great!
My cows are currently mowing a neighbor's yard - by request. I hope she's as pleased with the results as your neighbor.
Put some of them babies in your apron pocket and just go visitin...
greydyttyn I bet you would hear some great stories for that lady,I love to talk to the elderly they have such interesting stories mabe even some good chicken stories.
MissJestr... I wish i had an old apron that I could do that with.
Green04735... I have lots of little old ladies that adopted me long ago as a granddaughter. I grew up with those stories. My mother is a beautician & I grew up in the shop with her.
Grey, got a Hoodie??
yes i do.... but its too hot for it. I might carry a coffee can over.. with a chickie in it. :) I've got some plastic ones with holes in the lids to pour chick feed out of.
Nice neighbors are so hard to come by these days. Yours sounds like gold! Great story!
