DonnaB, do you have any recent pics of your Silkie babies? I'd love to see them!
Just wanted to see what they look like since I have three of them (5 weeks old). They really do go through a gangly funny looking stage. My babies feathers look so messy right now. Still looking for the camera battery charger so I can get some pictures.

Thanks!!

Annie I haven't had time to get a new pic yet. I will say they have upgraded to punk rockers ROFL.
Been busy over seeing DD and Friend build my new large double chicken cages and coops. They goof off to much if I don't stay out there and I am paying by the hour grrrrrrrrrr Sure glad there have been strong winds blowing since it has warmed up to 80 already

(Zone 5b)

Ohh a new coop, you'll send pics of that too I hope! Oh you are so lucky your DD can build!
Ok, I'll be watching for Silkie pics when you have time. Wish I could find the battery charger for my camera so I could take pics of mine, have a Silkie in the punk rock stage too. One, I think a girl, is so tiny and sooo sweet! She likes to sit on my hand and eat treats.

well she is the flunky/helper lol. It is her friends brother in law doing most of the work. She is mostly stapling wire and assisting. Had to get my poor chickens out of the temporary cages I put them in winter. Just big to be in the house anymore and had my plants in the screen porch. That Marans Roo is huge for 5 months old. DH calls him Monster Roo. Plus I have 2, 6 week olds ones in my screen porch along with a tiny bantam Araucana. Yucky mess to have to spray out every morning. I tried putting them in with my other Bantam Araucana that are a bit bigger and 5 months old. They beat the heck out of them. The poor little roo they ripped all the feathers off his back so I brought them back inside until the new cages are done. I have the babies ducks and geese outside as of yesterday in a temp cage. My Mandarin babies hatched in the Aviary yesterday. I have Chiloe Widgeons due next then more Mandarins and European Shelducks. The Fulvous Whistling Ducks arranged the ground nest to suit them and they rolled the eggs out twice so I trashed them. I figured they were no good anymore since they were already sitting them. It was so neat. The female and male took turns sitting them. The Male Chiloe stays in the ground box with the female most of the time

I just recently learned there was such a thing as a bantam EE. I had no idea.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Cajun Araucana is not a EE. It is a pure species originating from Chile I believe. They are Rumpless & Tufted for SQ but can have tail or partial tail & can be clean faced. The Tufted gene is a lethal gene so it is very hard to get the perfect bird. EE is a mix breed that was created. Amercana is also a pure breed. Most people call anything that lays a blue egg a Amercana/EE or Amercana/Araucana when it is just a EE

What I meant was that I did not know there were bantam varieties of chickens that layed colored eggs. I grouped all colored egg layers in the EE department. I know there is a big difference but EE covered what I was trying to get across. Though I didn't get it across so well. LOL Did not realize the tufted gene was a fatal gene. I have a tuffted roo. He is a bantam. 3/4 white bantam and 1/4 blue spanish muff game cock. A real looker with a rose comb.

DonnaB, your Silkies are adorable! Don't you just love this scrubby stage? Yours have such nice feathering on their tails too. They're going to be beauties, can't wait to watch them as they grow.
