Here's Far Reaches Farm:
All good things come to those who wait - FAR REACHES FARM IS OPEN!
April 2-4 from 10:00-4:00 and April 9-11 also from 10:00-4:00. We thought we would until the unseasonably warm early spring weather was finished and wait until we had the classic spring weather. One thing to remember for those of you not living in Port Townsend, we are in the rain shadow so if it is raining in Seattle or even Chimacum, we are probably having to run the sprinklers here because it is not raining.
We don’t have our full complement of plants out yet but there are quite a few that are just top notch.. Finally we have some Trillium grandiflorum Flore Pleno available and should be in flower this weekend. These have fully double flowers much like a corsage gardenia and are always spendy ($50.00-$25.00 depending on size) being sterile and having to be propagated by division. The good thing is that they clump up extremely fast for a Trillium so the initial investment looks like a bargain in just a few years. For us, nothing says Happy Easter more than a double Trillium! Unless it was one of the Trillium kurabayashi/chloropetalum crosses which are flowering in gallon pots.
Trillium kurabayashi and T. chloropetalum are both sessile Trilliums meaning the flowers are stemless and sit atop the mottled leaves much like an Olympic torch. The flowers are generally dark red but can range to pink, liver-brown or even greenish yellow. Both species have a narrow geographical range with T. kurabayashi barely into sw Oregon and northern California while T. chloropetalum is restricted to the Bay area of California. The plants we are offering are seedlings from crosses made 7-8 years ago and vary from typical for the species to some interesting intermediates. All are in shades of red to maroon to deep pink with some taking on liver tones. A rare offering of blooming plants for immediate gratification at $30.00.
Not all great plants are necessarily expensive. We have one of our favorite primroses, Primula vulgaris ssp. sibthorpii, nearing the end of a fabulous 2 month run of bloom available for $5.00 for chunky plants in 4” pots. This are low growers, rock hardy and one of the very earliest primroses to bloom smothering themselves in pink-lilac flowers Feb-Mar.
By request, we are also offering bags of our own custom potting soil mix for sale. We spent several years developing and tweaking our container mix and feel like we have it really dialed in.
Watch for our nursery dogs as you drive in, Canela and Callie who are not car smart and will be relearning that it is an open day. You will see that we are tackling the eyesore bed along the right side of driveway and take a gander at our gorgeous pile of washed dairy manure from Ben Smith at Mapleview Farms as you drive by. Only gardeners and farmers can get this excited by a big pile of poop. Both the old and new shade gardens are looking smashing, as the trillium, corydalis and erythroniums are in full bloom just to name a few.
Sensible shoes – our parking area is grass. Hope to see you this spring.

PNW Nursery Spring Newsletters - Post Your Nursery News Here
No April fools joke in this newsletter. Serious business. I have killer plants. I am so excited. You need to come and check it out for yourself. You can also go to my website and see cool new plants in for yourself.
This month the shrub or tree salix is my plant of the month. Salix is also commonly called a willow. Salix are pretty cool plants, they have wonderful colored bark for winter interest. I have some big bare root weeping willows and many shrub ones. If you do buy a shrub form now is the time you should be cutting them back also the red twig dogwoods. Cutting them back now will ensure the bright red, orange or yellow twigs next winter. Or pretty foliage as the picture of the willow flamingo above. Willow do need irrigation or a damp spot and defiantly away from septic systems and water lines. I think I want to plant a big weeping one down by my pond. If any one is on a drive the willows on Gust Halvor road by the cool cow are great.
Well things are always changing around here, that is for sure. I now have roses. Probably 30 kinds of roses. Paul needed a bunch of roses called gourmet popcorn. He asked if I could order some. I found a great rose company and man do they have some cool roses. Colors I have never seen before. So order I did. I also planted a bunch as well. This one is very cool and fragrant. It is called cinco de mayo. What a nice color. Wouldn't it look great with a dark purple saliva.
Here are some new things we will be employing this year. Get your calenders out.
The last Thursday of every month from 9-1, I will be offering all garden members 20 percent off all plant purchases.
The last Friday of every month I will be offering 20 percent off all plant purchases over 300 dollars. The offer is from 9-1.
Also bring in a new person who hasn't been in before and have them sign up for our newsletter and receive 20 percent off that day.
All of these promotions apply to plants only.
I also have some wonderful new plant supports. Debbie has made some new ones that can fold and hang in your garage. They are brilliant. It is too dark to take a picture now but I will post some on the website.
I will also be having some very nice big maples in at great prices from my friend Bill. I will also post some pictures of those.
The more I sell, the more I can shop. Sounds great.
Come in and sign our notebook for a snail mail season ending monster sale and register for a monthly give away.
I hope you come and see some of the beauties in. I am open Thursday through Sunday or by appointment. Also Tory is working on Sunday's if you have any drought gardening questions or need help. Her corner is looking quite nice with all the arctostaphylos.

Kathy - "dark purple saliva"?
I suppose it would look great with just about anything (!) =:0)
Hee hee. yes, I didn't know Heidi was selling "saliva" this year. Wasn't it Mary who had "saliva" in her garden last year? One little typo really changes the meaning.
Maybe there is purple saliva - oh! grape juice spittle!
