Im planning on mixing some BB up this evening and was wondering.. I have several low ceramic plates I made for butterfly feeders that hang.. I know you are supposed to smear the bait on bark but can I put it on a rough sponge then set it on the plates?? I dont see where it would matter so long as theres something rough to hold the BB and a place for the butterflys to rest.. I dont have to worry about it coming off cause I made them to hold a sponge in place even if there is a breeze.... what do you experts think???
butterfly bait question
What is butterfly bait?
Buttery bait is homemade butterfly food

Interesting. Thank you.
Yes, you can put it on a sponge. I have used a small shallow bowl, poured some bait, then put a plastic scrubbie inside. The butterflies are able to reach the bait with their long proboscis but not the bees and wasps :o)

I thought it would work but just wanted an"experts" opinion
thanks
Hey, some butterflies feast on poo for salts and minerals and I don't even want to ask what else - so they aren't picky where you put the really good can-we-get-drunk-and-fly-into-a-post stuff!!!
You also might try to have some dishes on the ground - or very close to it. Lots of butterflies feed from fallen rotting fruit so they are used to looking for yummy stuff on the ground :o) but don't worry too much - they'll find it either way!

ps...and yes, the fermenting brew can get them drunk. I've seen butterflies literally 'flop' from a bait log.
Im afraid if I put it too low my dogs will try it out...lol I could do it outside the fenced yard though..thanks
