Hatch is underway

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Chicks are hatching. There are either 12 or 13 out now. Hard to count without them falling out the bator.

Looks like a good hatch, congratulations!

Great picture, it's hard to count them when they are moving all around. Taking a pic freezes them in time and that way you can count them better. Great hatch. Love the babies. Congrat: Hay

Cool pic! Congrats on the great hatch! I am learning to count a LOT faster! I do head counts outside often.. :)

Richmond, TX

I count my young pullets when I shut them up at night and can never get the same number twice - it becomes a lengthy procedure...

Ferndale, WA

Porkpal, thats funny, I quit counting. I never get the same number either...LOL. Hay

Joplin, MO(Zone 6b)

i count every night.. same number :)

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Ended up with 13 chicks in the brooder. Still have the 1 in the incubator. I finally took the shell completely off of it. The egg membrane was stuck to it really bad all over. i don't know why the membrane was so thick in that one egg. I dipped the chick's beak in water and put it back in the bator. I don't hold out much hope for it but I'll give it every chance. No pips in any of the other eggs. I am a bit disappointed in the low hatch rate.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

congrats on the new chickie babies. They are so cute

Gridley, IL

Ohhhh they are so cute. What are they?rocks?I love babies.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I have red star, white rock, barred rock and one unidentified black, hens. My roo for this batch of chicks was my big EE. I have my dominique roo in with them now.

The little chick has made it through the night. It didn't seem to be trying too hard so I put the smallest chick back in the bator with it. I gave it more water and this morning it is holding it's own though it is weak. I put it in the brooder with the rest. Hoping it will motivate it to "work" at trying to live. Can't raise it in the bator.

What kind of eggs are you hatching Elle?

mobile, AL(Zone 8a)

Congratulations! Yes what type are they?

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Sounds like a great hatch. What kind? My little weak chick is fine now. I can't pick it out from the rest. I am collecting bantam eggs to hatch next. I have just under 2 dozen. When I get 2 dozen I will set them. I am a bit OCD and like to have a nice even number. LOL

Gridley, IL

I just set both of my old english bantam and standard size eggs , some polish and more EE to fill the incubator. My Cochins are sitting there own this time and My banny are doing a perfect job with my 5 mandrian duck eggs.I need to candle them.I have pilgrim geese sitting and one of the ducks sitting plenty of dove and pigions with babies. springhas sprung here for sure.

I open mine to see if they had any development. Then I feed them to the pigs. When we still had our pet possum, we gave her the duds. She LOVED them.

Humansville, MO
